Chinese Prefolds
What are Chinese prefolds?
Chinese prefold cloth diapers are an economical choice for cloth diapering your baby. These work-horse diapers are easy to use. Even if you have never used a cloth diaper before, you’ll soon be folding them like a pro. (Click to see pictures of how to fold cloth diapers.) Chinese prefolds are durable, wash and dry easily, and are very inexpensive. Chinese prefolds are usually sold in white or natural, unbleached cotton, but we love them dyed as well! These prefolds are from Little for Now cloth diapers. We carry several sizes and colors of Chinese prefolds.
What are “DSQ Chinese prefolds?”
Diaper service quality (DSQ) diapers are far superior to any cloth diaper you will see in a big-box retail store. The diapers sold there are typically only used for burp cloths (and most are not even very good for that purpose!). They are not intended to be absorbent enough to keep baby dry – many are actually padded with polyester batting that has no absorbency at all. When someone tells me they tried cloth diapering and hated it, they almost always admit that they were using baby store diapers and cheap vinyl covers. Real diapers are absorbent and make cloth-diapering easy. Combined with a quality cloth diaper cover, Chinese prefolds make a fast, convenient and economical cloth diapering option.
DSQ diapers are intended to hold up to industrial washing and drying, and they are made with several layers of 100 percent cotton so they absorb well and keep your little one, and your lap, dry! Typically they are 6 or 8 layers in the middle – making them very absorbent yet still very soft.
What is the difference between Chinese and Indian prefolds?
Quality cotton prefolds are generally made in either China or Pakistan/India so they are known as Chinese or Indian prefolds. Chinese prefolds tend to be a bit sturdier, Indian prefolds tend to be a little softer. You’ll find some people who swear that one type is better than another, but in over 5 years of selling prefold cloth diapers I have found that both types are equally popular with parents.
How much money will using Chinese prefolds save?
Disposable diapers will cost $2,000-3,000 or more for 2 years of diapers. Quality Chinese prefolds and good diaper covers will cost you about $250 for enough diapers and covers to last from birth to potty-training – and if they are cared for well they will last through two or more babies! That is a savings of over 90 percent for one child, the second child is diapered almost free. Not sure you want to use cloth diapers all the time? Try a mini-pack and see how cloth diapers work for you. Just by changing 3 cloth diapers per day, you can save money and keep thousands of diapers out of the landfill.
Where can I buy Chinese prefolds?
There are a number of online stores that carry Chinese prefolds. My store, Little for Now cloth diapers has a wide variety of prefolds, cloth diaper covers, and even colored prefolds as well as more information about using cloth diapers.
